Sky opens its movie rental service to everyone in the UK and Ireland

sky_logoSky Store, the movie rental service from UK satellite broadcaster BSkyB (Sky), is opening its doors to anyone in the UK and Ireland today. Previously, you had to be a Sky TV customer to access the service.

Sky Store lets users rent any of the 1,200 films it stocks via its website, or via the Sky Store app on any one of these streaming players — the NOW TV Box, Roku or YouView Box. The company says movie rentals through Sky’s set-top box Sky+ have more than doubled on-year, reaching 2.1 million rentals in the three months ending 30 September.

Users get to rent latest releases such as Man of Steel and Despicable Me 2 at £3.49 each, while classic movies such as The Godfather and Forrest Gump are going for 99p-£1.99. Each movie can be watched any time within a 48-hour period once you press play.
