Amazon Web Services launches private connectivity network ‘Direct Connect’ for UK firms

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the Web giant’s cloud computing service for businesses, has made AWS Direct Connect available in the UK and three other locations around the world.

AWS Direct Connect helps businesses establish a dedicated network connection from their premises or data center to AWS, with UK firms now able to link in directly to AWS EU West Region in Dublin via Telecity Sovereign House in London.

This service is designed to reduce network costs and increase bandwidth throughput compared to what’s typically available through a standard public Internet-based connection, and follows the launch of AWS Direct Connect in US East (Northern Virginia) in August last year and subsequent expansion to Silicon Valley in September.
