A ‘Pay with a Tweet’ Success Story

A ‘Pay with a Tweet’ Success Story

I’ve always been a bit dubious about social payment systems and the whole notion of “paying with a tweet” or “donating your status” but this initial case study does a good job of selling the concept. The idea was originally developed by a couple of authors who wanted to raise awareness around their new book but it spread from there into a button that anybody could add to their site to raise awareness around their products and services.

As an end user there is a certain feeling of the fact that you are selling out and pimping a product to your friends and followers but at the end of the day you are getting something for free instead of having to pay for it for simply sending one tweet. It remains to be seen if this is a model that will work in the long run but it’s certainly interesting to see people paying with their social graph rather than using actual money.
