Remember the Nike Mags – the dope self-lacing sneakers from the classic sci-fi adventure flick Back to the Future? Well, they’ve just become one the world’s most expensive pair of shoes.

Hong Kong auction house Dragon 8 has sold a pair of the iconic Nike Mags for a staggering $104,000 to an anonymous buyer.

The company claims the transaction has made the Mags the most expensive pair of sneakers ever sold at an auction.

The initiative also served as a platform to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) that supports the research of Parkinson’s disease.

In addition to the Hong Kong event, there will be two more auctions of the Nike Mags – one in London later this month and one in New York at the MJFF benefit gala on November 12.

If you’re keen to see how they work, check out YouTubers Marques Brownlee and Casey Neistat‘s vlogs as they try them on for size.

While you probably won’t get a chance to put on one of the 89 pairs of Mags Nike made, the sports giant is also working on a self-lacing model for consumers that will be available on November 28.
