Repetition is hard to avoid on the Web. Along with the generic terms that we all hear about the newest startup ‘unicorn’ or the latest millennial craze, maybe you want a creative way to avoid commonly used words or that celebrity that is everywhere.
Here are 7 extensions that can help you enjoy the Web, buzzword-free.
Donald Trump to Whining Four Year Old
The US Election season is in full swing, 12 months ahead of schedule. And most of the time no one really wants to hear what a politician said wrong this week. Donald Trump to Whining Four Year Old helps you personify all the commentary and even the the things he’s said about himself, whining away until he gets what he wants. Alongside this, there’s also the Florida Man Chrome extension, which replaces Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush with our favorite Florida celebrity account.
Politicians to Poop Emoji
Speaking of election season, instead of just replacing one politician, you can (hopefully) ignore the whole campaign by installing Politicians to Poop Emoji. Not only will you now never know which politician someone is tweeting about, you know when to avoid links and articles.
Cloud to NSA
The Cloud to NSA extension helps you realize the reality we’re living in. Now, each time you share a file or log in to Dropbox, you can remember who could be looking at your dog pictures or that Snapchat you sent someone.
XKCD has a comic about making news articles more fun. It includes a few substitutions that could make mundane articles more humorous, such as “New Study” to “Tumblr Post” and “Congressional Leaders” to “River Spirits”. Thankfully, there’s an extension that handles all of this for you.
Millennials Begone rids your browser of Millennials, the generational term that has spread like a plague and often describes them as such. Instead of dealing with a phrase as a catch-all for young people, you’ll instead have pesky whipper-snappers to listen to.
Replace Celebrity Names
Someone better looking than you replaces names of celebrities with “someone better looking than you”, making sure you never have to engage with pop culture or hear about the latest breakup that just doesn’t affect you.
One of the most used terms when describing startups is Unicorn, which are startups that have reached $1 billion dollars in valuation before their IPO. Well, now you can say bye bye to these unicorns. Voila, no more mythical businesses.
If you ever think of a keyword you want to replace on your own, you can use this extension to plug in the keyword, and bam. You have your own Uber to someone else’s car, politician to crook, or VC to rich person extension.
And there you have it. A more enjoyable and humorous Web, without having to worry about a unicorn, politician or what brand shoes some celebrity is wearing.
Fair warning, make sure you double check everything if you have these extensions installed. Anything in browser, (including the CMS that this was written in) will change with each keyword. I’ve actually had an instant where I had the famous Cloud to Butt extension installed as my laptop was displaying on an overhead screen. Thankfully it wasn’t too serious of a situation but it could’ve made for me awkwardly trying to explain what happened.
