This Day In Deals is our new section where we share a historical fact and the day’s best deal – and try to connect them. The aim? To enrich ourselves financially, and you spiritually.

A beer flood might sound like fun, but in reality it’s no laughing matter. Just take the London Beer Flood of October 17 1814 as an example.

At the Meux and Company Brewery in London’s Tottenham Court Road, a huge vat of beer burst. This unloaded 610,000 liters of the liquid everywhere. Even worse, this rupturing caused a domino effect, breaking open other vats of beer. This led to more than 1,470,000 liters of the amber nectar flooding London’s streets.

For context, 1,500,000 litres is 60 percent of the water an olympic pool holds.

To say the aftermath was bad is an understatement. The alcoholic wave destroyed two homes, left eight people dead, and many more injured.

Now, 204 years later, what can we do to stop something like this happening again? The answer is easy – don’t buy your drinks from a huge brewery with humongous vats, make it yourself.

And there’s not much better way of doing that than with Northern Brewer’s Homebrew Starter Kit.

The kit has everything you need to start brewing, including a fermenter, tubing (woo!), and a brew kettle. You can also choose from two different recipes for your first beer: Block Party Amber Ale or Chinook IPA.

Once the brewing and fermentation process is complete, you’ll end up with 50 bottles of your very own beer. The equipment is all reusable, so you’ll be crafting new and delicious brews for a long time to come.

Don’t forget to do your part in stopping another great beer flood and go grab Northern Brewer’s Homebrew Starter Kit here.
