Basis adds advanced sleep tracking to its B1 fitness band, unveils new $199 Carbon Steel Edition

Basis adds advanced sleep tracking to its B1 fitness band, unveils new $199 Carbon Steel Edition

Basis will update its wrist worn fitness tracker later this month with a new set of advanced analytics that measure different aspects of your sleep. From January 21, the Basis B1 band will calculate when you enter and exit REM sleep, deep sleep and light sleep, as well any interruptions or periods when you begin to toss and turn under the sheets.

Although it’s pretty difficult to change the quality of your sleep (avoiding coffee in the evening is supposedly a good start) Basis will also supply a sleep score through its iOS and Android apps to help you measure your progress. Better yet, all of this analysis is conducted automatically; provided you’re wearing the Basis B1 band, the sleep recording should kick in on its own each night.

To coincide with the announcement, Basis also unveiled the ‘Carbon Steel Edition’ of the B1 band, which features some premium chrome accents and a stretchable, silicone black strap. It will be available from Amazon and Best Buy stores for $199 from February 2; as a result, the price of the original B1 band has dropped to $179.
