Apsmart was started by Rahul Powar, who created the first Shazam iPhone app, and majority owner DN Capital, an early-stage investment firm. For the record, DN Capital was also an early backer of Shazam.
The company’s clients include Just Giving, The Daily Beast and Johnson & Johnson, but Apsmart also made a music app of its own called MPme.
The acquisition will help Thomson Reuters create and design better mobile products focused on news and content.
More specifically, the Apsmart team will work on improving Thomson Reuters’ mobile offerings, which include Thomson Reuters WestlawNext and Thomson Reuters ProView eReader.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Earlier this year, The Financial Times made a similar acquisition by snapping up (also London-based) application development firm Assanka, which had built a nifty HTML5 web app for the publisher. Signs of a trend?
