Sony quietly launched its flagship Xperia Z4 Android phone in Japan today, with a very similar design to its predecessor and marginally better specs.

The Z4 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop and features a 5.2-inch Full HD 1080p display, with a new 25mm wide-angle 5.1-megapixel front camera for bigger, better selfies.

Under the hood, you’ll find a Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage, along with a microSD slot for up to 128GB more space.

The Z4 comes with the same 20.7-megapixel 4K video-capable rear camera as the Z3. The body is fairly similar too, with a metal frame, and a glass back hiding a large 2,930mAh battery. However, it’s a tad slimmer at 6.9mm and weighs in at 144g – a hair lighter than the 152g Z3.

As with other Xperia devices, the Z4 is dust-resistant and can be submerged underwater to a depth of 4.92 feet for up to 30 minutes without kicking up a fuss.

Those numbers and figures aren’t too shabby, but it’s sad to see Sony rehashing an older model with only minor upgrades at a time when otherdevice makers are playing to win with their releases this year.

The Sony Xperia Z4 will be available in White, Black, Copper and Aqua Green in Japan this summer; the company hasn’t yet announced pricing or availability in other markets yet.
