Watch how the iPhone 7 handles knife scratches and intense bending

It’s only been shipping for a minute, but YouTuber JerryRigEverything has already managed to put the new iPhone 7 through an intense durability assessment.

In his latest video, the YouTuber performs a series of tests to see how Apple’s new smartphone responds to scratching, heat and bending.

While the iPhone 7 will withstand scratches from a simple utility knife with ease, contact with a mineral pick equivalent to level six and higher on the Mohs hardness scale could certainly leave permanent damages on your screen.

Similarly to the display, the rear iSight camera cover won’t succumb to a standard razor blade, but materials corresponding to level six and above on the Mohs scale will leave scratch marks on the glass.

This raises some interesting questions. Apple claims both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus come with sapphire lens covers, but JerryRigEverything’s tests suggest otherwise, since sapphire-built materials should easily resist scratching from level six picks.

When it comes to the aluminum back cover, the Matte black model holds up well to scratches from keys, but contact with sharper objects will certainly damage the surface.

Unlike last year’s iPhone 6, the iPhone 7 probably won’t bend in your pocket.

However, JerryRigsEverything noticed that the “waterproofing adhesive” material appears to stretch out when pressure is applied to the phone.

Overall, if I were you, I’d buy a case and keep my phone out of my pocket just in case.
