Time for audio supremacy?

Facebook is debuting podcasts, because what else is left?

Facebook, the social network that needs to have every product integrated into its all-singing, all-dancing app, is now into podcasting. The company will let page owners upload podcasts on their pages starting June 22.

According to a report by The Verge, Facebook sent an email to page owners notifying them of the feature. If you’re a page owner, you’ll be able to link the RSS feed of your podcast episodes, so they’ll eventually start showing up in the News Feed.

The company also said that it’ll soon introduce a feature called Clips, that’ll allow listeners to share favorite moments from an episode to their friends and to their News Feed.

Facebook’s terms for this product suggest that it can use some of your work in a derivative manner to distribute the podcast, but you can opt out any time.

This isn’t exactly an unexpected announcement. Back in April, Facebook had promised to roll out a bunch of audio products, including podcasts. Earlier this week, Mark Zuckerberg hosted a demo of its real-time conversation product in the US.

Later this year, the firm also intends to introduce Soundbites, a feature to post short audio clips to your News Feed. Think of it as voice messages for your timeline.
