Activity tracker Human finally arrives for Android, bringing new ‘Pulse’ feature with it

Activity tracker Human finally arrives for Android, bringing new ‘Pulse’ feature with it

Human, a fitness and activity tracker that launched for Apple devices since September 2013, is finally available on Android too.

Just like on iOS devices, it lets you keep tabs on your daily activity – encouraging you to make it to 30 minutes per day, rather than an arbitrary step goal.

While it has taken its sweet time to arrive for the platform, the launch brings with it a new feature for users of Google’s mobile OS, called ‘Pulse.’ This compares your own activity with other Human users. Benchmarks for the Pulse feature are based on the huge amount of data (more than 1.5 billion activities) it has already collected from iOS users.

By inciting (what it calls) “casual competition” between users based on location, it expects people to get in more activity, and therefore be healthier overall.

Like other activity tracking apps, it tracks moderate walking, cycling and running. However, the new Pulse feature will only be available in major cities – there wouldn’t be a whole lot of activity around you in more remote areas.

The new Pulse feature is only available for Android users from today, but a new build will arrive for iOS later this week, a spokesperson for the company told TNW.
