EE’s joint shareholders, Deutsche Telekom and Orange, issued a statement on the discussions with BT. They say:
“Deutsche Telekom AG and Orange SA are having highly preliminary exploratory discussions with British Telecom, although it is too early to state whether any transaction may occur. Deutsche Telekom and Orange will make further announcements if and when appropriate.”
Last year, BT struck a deal with EE to use its 4G network. If BT were to acquire EE, it would put the UK’s largest fixed line provider in control of the country’s largest mobile network.
