OnePlus will launch its first smartphone this year with a custom version of CyanogenMod

OnePlus, the smartphone manufacturer created by former Oppo exec Pete Lau, will release its first handset – called the OnePlus One – with a custom version of CyanogenMod before the second half of 2014.

The partnership was announced earlier today by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau and CTO Steve Kondik. Oppo recently released a special version of its flagship N1, which was the first device to ship with CyanogenMod running out of the box. It’s therefore fitting that OnePlus, Lau’s next venture, is the second OEM to team up with CyanogenMod and offer its community-driven Android ROM.

“We debated on the name for our debut phone, and finally decided on the popular OnePlus One,” the firm said in a forum post. “We are launching in select markets and eventually expanding to more global availability. Keep an eye out for the OnePlus One in the first half of 2014.”
