Amazon’s Bezos: “People don’t want gadgets, they want services”

Amazon’s Bezos: “People don’t want gadgets, they want services”

At a special event in Los Angeles today, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced that Prime Instant video had 25k movies and TV episodes and 18K books were in the ecosystem as well.

“We love to invent, we love to pioneer. We even love to go down avenues that turn out to be blind alleys,” said Bezos. “But every once in a while, one of those blind alleys turn into broad avenues.”

“People don’t want gadgets anymore, they want services,” he continued, referring to the dozens of Android tablets that were introduced last year but “didn’t sell.”

The stats come just days after Amazon said that it had captured some 22% of the tablet market with its Kindle Fire tablet. It is expected to announce updates to that device and more today.
