Samsung readies selected Galaxy devices for business use, with VPN and app admin tools

South Korean mobile giant Samsung today announced that it has signed a deal with leading networking specialists Juniper Networks to provide business customers with advanced VPN and security features to help ready their devices for enterprise use.

Extending its existing partnership, Samsung will outfit its Galaxy Note, Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab 10.1 products with Juniper’s Pulse software, giving device owners the ability to set up secure remote access connections on the handset or table, whilst maintaining the secure nature of the device.

With Apple’s iPad maintaining a large percentage of consumer and business market sales, device makers have looked to ready smartphones and tablets that can provide business users with unique tools and services that will appeal to enterprise customers.

Samsung’s announcement may not appeal to the general consumer but for IT departments that have been slow to exploit the openness of the Android platform, the new announcement might increase the adoption of Samsung smartphones and tablets in the enterprise.

Juniper’s Junos Pulse will allow Samsung users to connect via a Layer 3 SSL VPN connection to any network accessible device, with its Pulse Mobile Security Suite automatically removing malicious applications and providing administrators with the ability to remove potentially damaging applications without approval from the user.
