We just brought you news about the BlackBerry Torch, a phone that should keep the RIM faithful happy and may have a shot at bringing in fresh converts to the brand.
Part of the Torch announcement was the news that BlackBerry 6, the newest OS for BlackBerry phones, is on the way. It will launch first on the Torch, but is designed to work with other RIM devices.
RIM claims that BlackBerry 6 “is the outcome of RIM’s ongoing passion to deliver a powerful, simplified and optimized user experience for both touch screen and keyboard fans.” Sounds great, right? The only problem is that quite a number of older BlackBerry phones cannot run it. Will your phone get it?
It depends on what phone you currently have. If you have one of the following devices, and your carrier is not being obstinate, you should get version 6 “in the months ahead:” BlackBerry Bold 9700, BlackBerry Bold 9650, and the BlackBerry Pearl 3G. Of course, all future RIM phones will run it.
