Windows Phone 7 coming to Verizon May 5th [Rumor]

Windows Phone 7 coming to Verizon May 5th [Rumor]

TNW Quick Hit:

News is swirling that at long last, Verizon is soon to release its Windows Phone 7 handset  in the United States. The HTC 7 Trophy might be coming to the network on May 5th, but an “imminent” launch according to well-sourced publications is nearly now all but certain.

Microsoft was slow to release CDMA Windows Phone 7 handsets, a move that delayed the phone line’s launch on both Sprint and Verizon in the United States. AT&T has carried WP7 devices since their initial availability.

In October of 2010, Verizon expressed a lack of interest in the new Windows Phone line, saying that it was not “at the forefront of our [Verizon’s] mind.” Since that time, the carrier has reversed its position.

Judging by the number of emails TNWmicrosoft has received on the matter, there is pent-up consumer demand for a Windows Phone device on Verizon. Let us sincerely hope that this is the final time that we will have to report the possible future launch of WP7 on Verizon, as we have been dancing on the issue for so long that our digital feet hurt.

And of course, the following image is of the Trophy 7 that Verizon customers should be able to pick up in the near future:
