Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 Marketplace surpasses 9,000 apps

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 Marketplace surpasses 9,000 apps

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 marketplace has been found to be growing at roughly a thousand applications every two weeks after it emerged the application store surpassed 9,000 apps today.

The marketplace eclipsed 8,000 in mid-February, detailing the total in a Microsoft blog post shortly after the company signed a deal with Nokia to provide its mobile operating system on Nokia handsets. With 8000 applications and games on the Windows Phone Marketplace at the time, there were also 28,000 registered developers and over 1 million developer tools downloaded.

At its current growth rate, the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace should top 10,000 applications by the middle of March, although growth is expected to accelerate as Nokia eases the transition between Qt and Symbian development and the Windows Phone 7 ecoystem.

Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed the milestone so we must wait until a member of the Redmond-based company mentions the total in one of its next team blog posts or at the next popular event.
