Amazon PlayStation Network Store: A new place to buy digital content for your PS4, PS3 and PS Vita

With the launch of the PlayStation 4 now only days away, Amazon is hoping to capitalize on the growing demand for digital titles with the Amazon PlayStation Network Store, a new online marketplace for buying downloadable content.

The problem with opting for a digital-only library is that players are limited to the prices set by the storefront holder. Until now, buying games digitally on the PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita meant spending the amount listed in the PlayStation Store, regardless of whether it was a good deal or not.

With Amazon in the mix, there’s an opportunity to introduce some competition to Sony’s hardware ecosystem and bring down prices for the consumer. At this stage though, it’s not clear if Amazon will simply be mirroring the PlayStation Store, or offering its own deals and sales. Still, at least players now have more than one storefront to check when they’re craving for the latest releases.

The Amazon PlayStation Network Store covers the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. At the moment, Amazon is offering $5 of free PSN credit with selected titles, including The Last of Us, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag and Batman: Arkham Origins.
