Netflix and RTÉ Digital buddy up to bring popular TV shows to the streaming service

Netflix and RTÉ Digital, the digital arm of Raidió Teilifís Éireann, Ireland’s National Public Service Broadcaster,  have announced an agreement to bring a variety of RTÉ television series to Netflix members in Ireland and the UK.

From September 15 critically acclaimed RTÉ television series like The Clinic, Killinaskully, Trivia, and SGT Mattie will be available for Netflix members in Ireland and its hit series, Raw, will also be available in Ireland.

Netflix members will be able to instantly watch all of this and more streamed over the Internet to connected TVs, tablets, game consoles, media players, computers,  and mobile phones.

For those who perpetually miss episodes in a series and prefer to eat a set of programs whole as a box set, this is good news and a great way to catch up. Though it can’t save you from folk on Twitter announcing spoilers of course.

Hungry for streaming

Netflix came to Ireland earlier this year and managed to reach one million members in the UK and Ireland within seven months, so there is clearly a taste for binning the TV schedule and watching video on demand. This rapid expansion was faster than any other territory Netflix has stepped into.

The streaming service is available to try one month free and charges a monthly-unlimited viewing fee of €6.99 in Ireland and £5.99 in the UK.

Through the Netflix agreement, RTÉ content is now available through the RTÉ Player, as well as various Netflix-enabled devices such as iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, desktops, notebooks, PS3 and via the RTÉ Player app on Samsung connected TV’s.
