Middle East StartupDigest: Regional Events Conveniently by E-Mail

If your an aspiring entrepreneur, venture capitalist, employed or unemployed professional looking for a good opportunity you should be out there attending networking events to meet the people who can make it happen.

Ever since I was a kid I was told that building relationships is more important than making money, not understanding what it truly means I used to look down at that phrase. Taking the advice in a truly materialistic manner didn’t allow me to realize that a fake smile and compliment will only identify you as such.

But building a real relationship almost always requires meeting people in person and simply talking about what your passionate about, and if your smart with a hint of luck you might come across someone who shares that passion and has the ability to act upon it.

With the booming web startup scene in the Middle East it is becoming increasingly important for entrepreneurs to get out there and meet investors, advisors, and even possibly co-founders. If not for work purposes, networking to meet fellow geeks should be enough motivation if your passionate about what you do.

To this end, it has been a hassle knowing of the regional startup related event scene, admirable attempts have been made such as StartupArabia’s Events section which provides an impressive collection of coming tech events, but not my cup of tea as I have to click at least 4 times to get there :).

Startup Digest is a weekly email of the best Middle Eastern startup events. It aims to bring together Arabia’s tech community and for now is only in English, we suggest they start a dual language version with Arabic to make things easier for everyone.

The original StartupDigest started in the Silicon Valley and has since grown to over 66,000 subscribers in 45 cities (and region’s with this addition) not to mention almost a dozen special & vertical mailing lists . Feedback from other cities is that subscribers love staying easily informed, and event organizers enjoy the attendance boost when they’re mentioned on the list. You can read more about it here.

The mailing list currently attempts to cover events throughout the Middle East thanks to fellow geek Muhammad Mansour whom is doing a great job based in Cairo – Egypt but could use some help from all you people out there. So start by signing up, then send him an email of an upcoming event you know of. Or at least tweet it just to bug him.
