Staring blankly at your screen? A gluten-free diet could boost your stamina

Staring blankly at your screen? A gluten-free diet could boost your stamina

A gluten-free diet might not just be solution to an allergy, it could actually improve your physical and mental performance too.

Newly-crowned Wimbledon Men’s tennis champion, Novak Djokovic attributes a recent upturn in his on-court performance in part to a diet free of glutenous foods like pasta, pizza, beer and pretzels.

As the Wall Street Journal reports, Djokovic was found to have a protein allergy last year, and after cutting out all gluten, he’s lost weight and improved his on-court form. It seems that a gluten-free diet may not only have a physical effect but may boost mental stamina too, with David Levitsky, a professor of nutrition and psychology at Cornell University, telling the WSJ that a gluten-free diet may benefit those with mild, or even no, allergies.

Of course, cutting out gluten is unlikely to be the sole cause of Djokovic’s performance boost but it’s certainly (gluten-free) food for thought if you’re looking for a way to improve your physical and mental energy. As ever with lifehacks like this, consult a doctor before significantly altering your diet.
