Netflix’s ‘Making a Murderer’ to return with explosive evidence pointing at new suspect

Making a Murderer is the best original show on Netflix. It is a mind-fuck sandwich with plot-twist dressing. Yesterday the real-life drama behind the documentary series took another surprising turn. The show’s focus, Steven Avery, may be going back to trial.

On June 7th Kathleen Zellner and Associates submitted new evidence and post-trial requests in the Steven Avery case. The 1,272-page document claims Avery deserves a new chance to prove his innocence — because they know who the killer is.

Don’t worry if you haven’t watched the series yet – I’m here to explain that this is a bombshell.

Making A Murderer is an experience

The documentary series details the life of Steven Avery: a man who was wrongfully accused of rape then exonerated after spending 18 years in prison.

It is difficult to navigate any further synopsis of the show without revealing intricate plot details that are better left littered throughout it. Making A Murderer is a fantastic series due to masterful pacing.

Each episode contains several surprises, which keeps the series interesting. In the end, viewers are left with more unanswered questions than they started with. The show leaves us with our jaws agape and our faith in the justice system eroded.

The unbelievable story of Steven Avery has only grown more interesting since it first aired in December of 2015.

The defense now claims to know who the actual killer is

ABC reports the appeal request from Zellner blames Halbach’s murderer on an ex-boyfriend. The document says he misled investigators and was never ruled out as a suspect. Isn’t it always the spouse/lover/ex in these things?

There are several other motions made concerning the handling of evidence, new testing methods, and psychological analysis indicating Avery may not even be aware of crucial details concerning the crime.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice responded to the document saying “We are confident that as with Mr. Avery’s prior motions, this one also is without merit and will be rejected once it is considered by the court. We continue to send our condolences to the Halbach family as they have to endure Avery’s ridiculous attempts to re-litigate his guilty verdict and sentence.”

Where does it go from here

Netflix hasn’t given Making A Murderer season two an official release date but it is expected to return in the second half of 2017. Kathleen Zellner claims, on her website, that season two will coincide with her appeal.

I hope that Avery gets his retrial — not because I believe he is innocent (and I’m not saying he is guilty either) — but because I simply can’t wait to call in sick and binge-watch the next season. I want to know how it ends. Scratch that: I need to know how it ends.
