Tesla just made the quickest production car you can buy

The new Tesla Model S P100D is the quickest car in the world with an acceleration of 0-60 in 2.5 seconds.

As the name suggests, the 100 kWh battery is the largest in any Model S, and has a range of 315 miles. Tesla says it’s “the longest range production electric vehicle by far.”

If you’re into SUVs, the new, larger battery is also making its way to the Model X. Because of the heft on an X, you’ll only get 289 miles per charge.

Of course, none of this comes cheap. Tesla’s Model S P100D starts at $134,500, and the Model X opens at $135,500. Tesla is producing about 200 of the new Model S’ per week to start.

Existing P90D can opt for the larger battery if they’ve got $20,000 laying around. If your P90D hasn’t arrived yet, it’s a $10,000 upgrade option.

The company also acknowledges the P100D is a luxury most won’t be interested in, but again reminds us that it helps fund the incoming Model 3.

So if you’re rich and want a Tesla, please buy the new P100D so the rest of us can seriously contemplate the Model 3.
