Netflix announces a second season of ‘Making a Murderer’

Netflix announces a second season of ‘Making a Murderer’

Making a Murderer, the breakout true crime documentary from Netflix, is set to return for a second season.

“We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series. The viewers’ interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold” said creators, Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos.

In case you missed the first, a team of documentary film makers followed Wisconsin resident Steven Avery as he was released from prison after serving 18 years for the murder and sexual assault of another woman. He was later cleared of any wrongdoing by DNA evidence. By accident, the filmmakers happened to be in the right place at the right time to document a newly developing story as Avery was charged with a second murder, that of Theresa Halbach in 2005.

Throughout the show there are twists and turns that make for truly compelling television all while painting (perhaps falsely) Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey (also charged with Halbach’s murder) as sympathetic, if not outright innocent, while at the same time attempting to show malicious intent (or at least utter ineptitude) by the Manitowoc County police.

The second season is set to follow the post-conviction life of Avery, Dassey and the rest of the family from season one. We’ll also meet with the new legal team and find out what, if any, legal options are available to free the two men.

As yet, there’s no release date announced.
