Google Maps adding ‘enhanced features’ for the 2016 Olympic games in Rio

If you’ll be in Rio for the Olympic games this year, keep Google Maps handy: it’s being updated with “enhanced features” for the various venues you’ll be at.

After launching real-time transit info for Rio de Janeiro a few weeks back, Google is rolling out detailed indoor and outdoor maps of all 37 Olympic venues (25 indoor, 12 outdoor).

It’s also pretty easy to use the indoor mapping feature, if you’ve not had the pleasure. From Google:

Just open Google Maps on your computer or mobile phone, search for a place that has indoor maps, zoom into the place, and click on it. At the bottom right side of the screen, choose among the floors and levels of the building. Points of interest like concessions, restrooms, information desks, and ATM machines are highlighted for easy identification.

Google even mapped the new golf course, which is returning to the Olympics after a 112-year absence.

The completed rollout will take ‘a few months,’ but it’ll be ready in time for the Summer games.
