PayPal ditches North Carolina plans over terrible anti-LGBT law

PayPal just became the latest company to forfeit plans to invest in North Carolina after the passage of HB2 — a bill signed by governor Pat McCrory and passed into law that denies protection for the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LGBT) citizens of the state.

“The new law perpetuates discrimination and it violates the values and principles that are at the core of PayPal’s mission and culture,” said president and CEO Dan Schulman. “As a result, PayPal will not move forward with our planned expansion into Charlotte.”

The planned expansion sought to bring a new operations center to the state, and 400 additional jobs.

Instead, PayPal joins a long list of other companies who condemn the passage of HB2 in North Carolina, a list that includes Twitter, Facebook and Apple.
