In a move that should make its creators happy, YouTube has acquired BandPage. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
BandPage helps upstart musicians connect with fans and promote music via social media. It also has a service that allows bands to create a landing page for fans to check out.
Via a blog post announcing the acquisition, BandPage says it is “dedicated to helping musicians build their careers by growing their fan bases and increasing their revenue on the largest digital music services in the world. By joining forces with the team at YouTube, we can help artists reach their fans in more powerful ways than ever before.”
It’s an interesting move by YouTube, which is seeing creators resist its YouTube Red service agreement or seek deals elsewhere. Though BandPage’s announcement focuses on musicians, it’s easy to see YouTube applying BandPage’s concept to all users.
