Trello, the digital whiteboard used for everything from planning projects to vacations, is opening itself up to app developers.
It has also added several new Power Ups (that’s Trello’s name for integrations) from partners such as Giphy, Zendesk and SurveyMonkey.
Via its open API, app developers can already create custom integrations for use privately. If developers want integrations to be publicly available as Power Ups, they must submit their work for approval.

When I asked Trello CEO Michael Pryor why it was opening up, he admitted they really can’t pigeonhole the service. He and his team see it as a ‘horizontal’ that is used so broadly there’s no way to pin it to one type of use-case.
To that, he wants developers to help users by building ‘verticals’ (like Salesforce, which is focussed on one thing) atop Trello. Once you discover your reason for using Trello, there will hopefully be an integration you’ll find useful.
Developer also have plenty of incentive to build apps and services with Trello in mind; the company has grown 20 percent since September of 2015, and now boasts over 12 million users.
