T-Mobile announces Binge On, a free video streaming service that doesn’t use up your data

T-Mobile announces Binge On, a free video streaming service that doesn’t use up your data

John Legere took the stage at today’s Uncarrier X event Los Angeles to announce its plan to change the way each of us consume video on our mobile devices. Well, each of us that are T-Mobile subscribers anyway.

The announcement had a heavy video focus and featured the arrival of a new feature that allows you to use unlimited high speed data for watching a select number of video services over 4G without using up your LTE data.

The appropriately named Binge On currently supports the following platforms, with more to follow:

  • HBO
  • Netflix
  • Hulu
  • Sling
  • Fox Sports

And others… a total of 24 sites currently.

BingeOn is a free service for all T-Mobile customers much like the previously announced Music Freedom, which allowed you the same data savings when streaming music over 4G LTE connections.

The planned launch of Binge On is November 15th for new Simple Choice Amped plans and November 19th for existing customers.

Update: Legere later announced a new optimization strategy for digital video content that allows for faster streaming, uses less data on their end, and improves output to “at least” DVD quality over 4G LTE.
