The Sony Entertainment hacks were an embarrassment for the company, but also highlighted a surge in data breaches that have affected both large and small companies. the aftermath is a concern that these data breaches could can significant harm to national computer systems. Sort of like the 1980’s movie ‘War Games’ but with less smirking by Matthew Broderick.
To battle the hackers of the world, Reuters reports that President Obama is seeking $14 billion for cybersecurity to protect both private and federal networks from hackers.
The budget proposal seeks better intrusion detection, funding of a Civilian Cyber Campus for a partnership between public and private sectors, increased prevention capabilities and more.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Republication-controlled Congress reacts to the proposal.
