Companies collect a lot of data. What do you do you do when you have a lot of data? You visualize it, of course.
That’s what AirBnB is doing today, introducing an interactive map, created by digital production company Tool, that shows off Airbnb activity around the world, including off guest check-ins and global hotspots.
The map also plots activity for AirBnB’s #OneLessStranger social campaign (with help from the TBWA\CHIAT\DAY ad agency), which the company introduced a year ago as a challenge offering $10 to 100,000 users that shared their experiences with strangers around the world using the campaign’s hashtag.
The virtual globe is riddled with interesting data points (33,000 guests stayed in New York on New Year’s Eve, for instance) and slick little animations (can you spot bigfoot in Canada?); it’s worth checking out for its quirkiness alone
