Sonos’ speaker software update beta brings multi-account support and improved Playbar performance

Sonos’ speaker software update beta brings multi-account support and improved Playbar performance

Sonos is launching a public beta of the latest software for its wireless home speaker range, which promises to bring a slew of new features, and improved performance to its Playbar soundbar.

The update to version 5.2 allows multiple users to log on and play music on Sonos speakers, freeing them from the restriction of single-user control. Finding the right song to play becomes easier too, thanks to improved search capabilities that can sort through all connected music sources, including users’ mobile devices. Android users will be able to control audio playback right from the lock screen.

Sonos also asserts that Playbar users can expect a more nuanced and immersive music experience, as the update includes improvements to the soundbar’s soundstage, EQ and volume balance for natural audio reproduction.

The beta kicks off today with a view to rolling out the finalized update later this year. Interested Sonos users can try it out now on Android devices, as well as Sonos Desktop Controllers for Mac and PC here.
