Sony opens its PlayStation Now game streaming beta to PS3 users in US and Canada

More than a month after releasing the PlayStation Now open beta on the PS4, Sony has opened up its game streaming service to PS3 users in mainland US and select parts of Canada. The company strongly recommends a 5 Mbps wired connection for the service.

PS Now on the PS3 isn’t particularly exciting, since the games available currently come from the existing PS3 catalog. Sony did note that it plans to release God of War Ascension, inFamous and Ultra Street Fighter IV. Down the road, PS Now will be most useful when it comes to Sony TVs, the PlayStation TV set-top box and mobile devices.

Sony uses a rental model for PS Now, with periods as short as four hours. The company also said it is working on a subscription option.
