Cotap goes premium with its enterprise mobile messaging service

Cotap, a business-focused mobile messaging app created by former Yammer executives, has begun offering a premium version of its service that lets company administrators manage employee accounts.

As before, users can sign up for free access to Cotap with their work emails, but companies that pay for the service will tap into an admin console with analytics, account management and data export options. Administrators can also send companywide alerts in real-time.

cotap-2Cotap’s premium offering comes in two pricing tiers. The Enterprise level costs $10 per user per month and offers both the dashboard and real-time notifications, while a Team tier that just does alerts costs $5 per user.

Existing users should note that administrators will have access to your messages in order to meet legal requirements for some industries, so you probably shouldn’t be using the app to bad-mouth your boss with your other coworkers.

Cotap launched on iOS last October and is founded by Yammer’s former Chief Product Officer Jim Patterson and Senior Director of Engineering Zack Parker. An Android version was released in February.

While messaging apps have taken off in the consumer space over the past couple years, workplaces have fewer options for internal mobile messaging. Patterson said in an interview that he believes the time is right to go after the enterprise, as messaging now has consumer momentum to push businesses, which are traditionally more conservative, to begin adopting the technology.
