If you’re a fan of Hacker News, you may have noticed something a bit different today: the site was down. Y Combinator’s Paul Graham took to Twitter to explain what happened, attributing the outage to a server issue and that it would be back in an hour, barring any other issues that may arise.
What happened to HN (from @kogir): server hang (not sure why), reboot, discover filesystem corruption, now restoring from backups.

On Sunday night, a Twitter account affiliated with Hacker News posted that the server went offline and that the YC team was trying to fix it and also were in the process of rebuilding a replacement if needed. About 10 hours ago, the server went back up and then the process of recovering files from its backup began and about an hour ago, it was 78 percent complete.
Update: Hacker News is back online.
