Adobe updates Photoshop for Creative Cloud with new Generator tool for dynamically exporting assets

Adobe has released Photoshop version 14.1 for Creative Cloud, a free update that includes a new tool called Generator for dynamically exporting assets from a project as individual image files.

Generator arrives as an open source project. The latest Creative Cloud update includes two plugins developed by Adobe to showcase its potential. One automatically exports image assets into a special directory, while the other connects to Adobe’s Edge Reflow tool for responsive Web design.

The exporting plugin works by generating asset files once a filetype has been appended to a layer group. Users can also specify the resolution of the scale and export. As edits are made to the PSD file, Generator will update files in the background so that you don’t have to worry about re-exporting or using out-of-date files.

Adobe’s second Generator plugin can be used to create an Edge Reflow project. Reflow, which first arrived on Creative Cloud in February, helps designers create responsive Web designs.

Photoshop version 14.1 follows a Creative Cloud update from June. Adobe first released its cloud-based subscription service last summer and then went all-in on it a year later. Creative Cloud has attracted over 500,000 paid subscribers and over 2 million users when free subscriptions are included.
