Voice-activated smartphone apps in your car: Ford SYNC AppLink 2.0 and App Catalog is coming to Europe

Voice-activated smartphone apps in your car: Ford SYNC AppLink 2.0 and App Catalog is coming to Europe

SYNC AppLink 2.0, an in-car integration by Ford that enables drivers to control some of their favorite iOS, Android and BlackBerry apps with natural voice commands, is coming to Europe.

The car manufacturer announced at IFA 2013 today that the latest version of its AppLink software would be available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Mandarin at launch. It will be supported by the SYNC AppLink App Catalog, which helps users find new supported apps based on their current location.

SYNC AppLink 2.0 gives developers the ability to send push notifications, both through a connected display and their audio setup, as well as drivers’ vehicle data. TomTom, Hotels.com and Spotify are but a few of the apps that’ll be available in the catalog.

No word yet on a release date, but as soon as it’s available we’ll be sure to let you know.
