Adele’s ’21’ dominated Rdio’s charts as the top shared album worldwide throughout 2012

Adele’s Grammy-award winning album ’21’ took top honors as the most shared album worldwide in 2012 on the music subscription service, Rdio. As we’ve seen with several companies around this time of year, Rdio has produced a list of the top albums shared on its service. But what was the most played? In the United States, it was Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know.”

This year, the company said that the service had a bunch of “heavy-hitting releases” shared, but the one that topped the charts was Adele’s ’21’ album, which it said was also a contender last year. The album was so popular that it didn’t even leave Rdio’s charts in 2012. Other top shared albums this year were:

    1. Adele – 21
    2. Of Monsters And Men – My Head Is An Animal
    3. Various Artists – Avenida Brasil EP
    4. Alt-J – An Awesome Wave
    5. The Lumineers – The Lumineers
    6. Gotye – Making Mirrors
    7. Paula Fernandes – Meus Encantos
    8. Thiaguinho – Ousadia & Alegria

The service has grown significantly over the past two years. It currently has over 18 million songs in its catalog, which some believe rivals that of Spotify, MOG, and Pandora. And this year alone, it has expanded its service beyond the United States to countries like Spain, PortugalUK, FranceEstonia, Belgium, the NetherlandsNorway, and others — a total of 17 countries worldwide.
