MyHealthTeams lands $1.75m from 500 Startups and others, launches MyAutismTeam iOS app

MyHealthTeams, a developer of social networks for communities of people living with or caring for those living with chronic health conditions like breast cancer, diabetes and others, has raised $1.75 million in seed funding.

The capital injection comes courtesy of private equity firm Adams Street Partners, 500 Startups and a host of (unnamed) angel investors.

Originally launched in June 2011, MyAutismTeam is one of two condition-specific social networks launched by the company to date, connecting parents of children with autism with each other online.

The second is MyBreastCancerTeam, and more health condition-specific social networks are on the way. The funding will be used to scale the business, expand the team and drive awareness for the websites and the mobile apps.

Today, MyHealthTeams is releasing its first iOS app to accompany the MyAutismTeam community website, which it says currently boasts 26,000 registered parents from all over the United States (up from 30 parents in June last year).

Sites like MyAutismTeam basically help registered users connect with a network of people facing the same daily challenges, and also enable members to locate referrals of providers and businesses best suited to help them.

According to the company, 1 in 2 Americans (which comes down to a whopping 150 million+ people) are living with a chronic condition today, and that number is forecast to grow 42 percent in the next year.
