We’ve been seeing it for a couple years now in the tech industry, but this trend is starting to make its way into other fields, as well. What trend is that? The growing demand to offer more, and better, perks to existing employees and potential employees.
No longer is the goal to simply get a good insurance plan and benefits and wait it out at a job for 40 years until retirement. People just don’t stay in the same jobs for as long anymore, and in their search for the next career move, many are starting to look at the additional perks that come with a job. Tech industry jobs like Facebook and Google have been offering insane perks packages for years, but how can a smaller company attract the same resumes that a powerhouse like Google or Facebook does?
One company, AnyPerk, is looking to even the playing field. At its core, the company focuses on employee happiness. Basically, if an employee is happy then they are more likely to stay, and AnyPerk helps the company stay competitive by offering great rewards and perks.
We had a chance to talk with Taro Fukuyama of AnyPerk to learn more about their service, what inspired it, and what’s in store for the future. Check it out below!
Care to introduce yourself and your role at AnyPerk?
Hi, I’m Taro Fukuyama and I’m the CEO and co-founder of AnyPerk.
What is AnyPerk, in just a couple of sentences?
AnyPerk is an Employee Happiness platform that provides perks and rewards solutions that we founded on helping companies build places where employees love to work. We offer an integrated rewards and perks platform that is easy to set up, boosts employee happiness, and can be personalized for your diverse workforce. AnyPerk has over 1,000 customers including Salesforce, Sephora, and Virgin America.
What inspired the creation of AnyPerk?
When I was going through the Y Combinator program prior to starting AnyPerk, I had the opportunity to meet with a lot of CEOs. The one common theme that came out of those discussions was how important employees are – specifically retaining happy, engaged employees.
We did some research and found that studies were showing only 13 percent of employees were highly engaged with their companies, especially in cities like San Francisco and New York City where people were looking for new job opportunities every two years. This was clearly a big problem a lot of organizations were running up against; I thought if we could help them solve their issues around employee engagement, then that would be a great opportunity.
What kind of rewards and perks do you offer?
We know that happiness is a key part of employee engagement, but what makes one employee happy might not be the same for someone else. AnyPerk lets employees choose from wide range of rewards, so there’s something for everyone. When employees receive a note of recognition in their inbox and are taken to our rewards marketplace, they are able to choose a reward from a variety of top brands like Amazon, Target, Starbucks, and more. Individuals also have the option to put their rewards credit towards an experience like skydiving, wine tasting, or zip-lining – or even donate it to a charity.
Premium plan users can select a company-specific reward, like branded swag or lunch with their CEO. The whole process is simple and seamless. With our Perks platform, employees gain access to reduced pricing on over 850 brands in categories like travel, health and wellness, entertainment, and shopping. There are no limits on perk redemption frequency, they don’t expire, and are redeemable immediately.
You also have an “Employee Happiness Library” on your website? What kind of materials and information do you provide there?
Our online library consists of guides, ebooks, webinars, blog posts – all the resources you need to aid in building a positive work culture and engaging your employees. We aim to provide our readers with actionable content they can leverage when addressing the topic of workplace culture within their own organizations.
Anything new or exciting coming to AnyPerk?
We recently launched a partnership with leading all-in-one HR platform company Namely to automate the onboarding and maintenance of AnyPerk Rewards for customers to further ease the burden on HR administrators. We are excited to be working on a few other partnerships with larger vendors that will be announced later this quarter as well.
Additionally, we’re in the midst of releasing powerful analytics dashboards for Perks and Rewards, with integrations that allow HR personnel to view richer data for deeper analysis that wouldn’t otherwise be accessible outside our solution.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some of our questions, anything you’d like to close with?
In a study conducted by TinyHR, 79% of all employees feel undervalued largely due to a lack of recognition and appreciation. Since the launch of AnyPerk Rewards in May we’ve seen a lot of early adoption and success, with 88% of managers sending recognition to their employees monthly through our platform. What’s more, each manager is sending a recognition an average of 4 times per month.
We’re very proud of the progress being made and we’re excited to help bring recognition to the forefront of more company cultures.
We’d like to thank Taro for taking the time to answer some of our questions. You can learn more about AnyPerk here.
