Google Science Fair 2015 is looking for students who can change the world

Google has kicked off the fifth annual Google Science Fair today in search of bright young minds who can change the world we live in.

The aim of the online event is to encourage young researchers, scientists, technologists and inventors to get creative. It’s also backed by LEGO Education, National Geographic, Scientific American and Virgin Galactic.

This year’s themes are: ‘It’s your turn to change the world’ and ‘What will you try?’ Students can submit their projects from now until May 18 to be in with a chance to make the final at Google’s Mountain View HQ on September 21.

Google has also introduced seven new category awards, including education, health and environment, broadening the scope of the competition.

The prizes include $100,000 in scholarships, classroom grants from Google and Scientific American, an expedition to the Galápagos courtesy of National Geographic, a visit to LEGO design HQ, and a tour of Virgin Galactic’s new spaceship.
