Import .ics to Google Calendar

Google on Wednesday announced a cool addition to Gmail that will have Google Calendar users rejoicing. When you receive an email with a calendar event in the standard .ics format, you can now import them directly to Google Calendar straight from the email.

Furthermore, the newly added event in Google Calendar includes a link back to the original email you received. This will make it easier to find where the event originated from if you ever need to double check.

Here’s how the new feature looks (note the “Add to Google Calendar” button):

It’s a rather minor change but a very useful one if you depend on both Gmail and Google Calendar. Mobile users who use both services, including those on Android and iOS, will likely take advantage of the new feature.

Unfortunately, Google didn’t indicate that the button is also available on the mobile version of Gmail, which is where it would be particularly useful. This is odd to see, especially given the facelift Gmail’s Web app received this week.
