Cyber Monday comes to Google Music, popular albums reduced to $1.99

Cyber Monday comes to Google Music, popular albums reduced to $1.99

To tempt more users to its new Music Store, Google has begun a Cyber Monday promotion that sees albums from some of the world’s most popular musicians reduced to $1.99 for today only.

Cyber Monday, the first Monday after Thanksgiving (and Black Friday) is typically used by retailers to tempt consumers online to part with the cash that they didn’t spend bargain hunting in bricks-and-mortar stores on the preceding Friday. Google’s promotion sees albums from Pink Floyd, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Drake all priced at $1.99:

Unfortunately, music fans outside of the U.S are unable to enjoy the significant discounts on albums on Google’s Music Store.

The store launched on Android devices and the Web at the “These Go to Eleven” event in Los Angeles on November 16, after the company saw an immense amount of interest in the beta version of the service, with 1 million testers listening to 2.5 hours of music a day.

Google’s Music partners include EMI, Universal, Sony Music Entertainment, as well as a bunch of smaller indie labels to total over 1,000 partners. This ensures that over 13 million tracks will be available on the Android Market, 8 million of which are live today.

The mobile app, which is available for any device from Android 2.2 and up, will allow you to stream your collection as well as “pin” music to the device, which will let you listen to it offline. Users can also share their purchases via Google+, allowing their friends to listen to some of the tracks before deciding whether they wish to buy them.

Google’s Cyber Monday deals will last for 24 hours only. Again, it’s only available to users in the U.S.
