Google updates Android Market to suggest apps based on downloads of others

Google has updated its web-based Android Market portal to include app suggestions based on the downloads of others, incorporating a similar system to what its marketplace rival Amazon employs on its retail website.

It appears the new update went live to coincide with a number of new app releases for new services announced at the Google I/O event on Tuesday morning. The feature itself is not revolutionary but shows that Google is working to highlight apps based on human experience, not those recommended by it’s “Related Apps” algorithm that works by analysing keywords and categories.

At the moment, the feature is only available on the web-based version of the Android Market, although we can imagine Google will want to roll out a similar update to the Android client to provide uniformity across platforms.
