Three Dreams of Black: A new interactive music experiment at Google I/O

Three Dreams of Black: A new interactive music experiment at Google I/O

Bears morphing into horses? Buffalos morphing into tarantulas? It’s all happening today at Google I/O.

Last year, Google showcased HTML5, working with Arcade Fire on “Wilderness Downtown,” an amazing interactive promo for their new album “Suburbs.” This year the head of Google’s Creative Lab took the stage at Google I/O to unleash a new interactive music experience called “Three Dreams of Black” built with Chrome’s new WebGL. Three Dreams of Black is part of the project RO.ME, spearheaded by Danger Mouse and Danielle Luppi.

Three Dreams of Black is an interactive film by Chris Milk featuring musicians Jack White and Norah Jones. The musical album will drop later this month. The open source project is an experience starts off with 2D animation then it dumps users into an amazing 3D interactive world letting them manipulate the environment in realtime.

While the images above are just screen shots, I watched the video during the demo and was dazzled. Was it a website, a video or a game? Whatever it is, it’s the future of the Web.
