Amazon brings its Dash buttons to the UK, Germany and Austria for ordering staples with one touch

After unleashing them across the US last July, Amazon has now made its Dash buttons available to Prime customers in the UK, Germany and Austria.

The pillbox-sized devices, which can be stuck to any surface around your house, connect to your home Wi-Fi network and your Amazon account to allow you to order a replenishment of a wide range of household essentials, including Ariel detergent, Gillette shaving cream, Durex condoms, Andrex toilet paper and Huggies diapers with the press of a button.

Although they cost £4.99/€4.99 apiece, they’re basically free as each button scores you a £4.99 discount on the first order you place with them. However, it’s worth noting that the devices are only available to customers subscribed to Amazon’s £79-a-year Prime priority delivery service.

The company is also rolling out its Dash Replenishment Service in the UK, which allows devices like Bosch and Siemens home appliances, as well as Samsung printers, to order consumables like detergent and printer ink.

Of course, it’s worth noting that while the buttons might seem convenient, they may hurt your wallet more than you expect. Since you can’t check the price of a product before ordering with a Dash button, you might end up paying a higher price than last time. One user in the US reported that a Gatorade 12-pack cost $9 on the first order and then jumped to $22 the next time.

You can check out all the Dash buttons available to users in the UK over at Amazon’s site.
