Could this be the Lumia 925, Nokia’s highly-anticipated ‘Catwalk’ device?

Could this be the Lumia 925, Nokia’s highly-anticipated ‘Catwalk’ device?

Rumors about a new flagship smartphone from Nokia, codenamed ‘Catwalk’, have been circulating on the Internet for some time. Less than 24 hours before the company holds a dedicated Lumia event in London, a photograph has been published by evleaks on Twitter showing what could easily be the new device.

The image shows a Nokia smartphone, in both portrait and landscape orientation, running the iconic Windows Phone 8 homescreen and a group shot presumably taken with its new rear-facing camera.

The device is entirely black on the front, but is surrounded by what appears to be an aluminium material on the side and back. It’s a huge departure from the bright colors adopted by almost every other smartphone in Nokia’s Lumia and Asha range, pointing to a high-end image that can compete with the likes of Apple, Samsung and HTC.

Nokia broadcast a teaser video on Channel 4 in the UK yesterday, showing snippets of what appears to be the same device. Many of the macro shots were dedicated to the rear-facing camera and flash, however, which can’t be seen on the photograph released today by evleaks.

Many believed that the recently unveiled Lumia 928 would be Nokia’s new flagship device. The smartphone offers some competitive hardware, but it’s exclusive to Verizon in the United States and there’s been no word on a wider international release. The sudden announcement also raised further questions about the London event and exactly what Nokia is planning to show.

The leak follows the introduction of the Nokia Asha 501, the first in a new range of low-end smartphones running a re-engineered version of the Series 40 mobile operating system.
