Nokia may have grabbed the headlines with the launch of its new Nokia 808 PureView at Mobile World Congress but the company also introduced the latest handset in its Windows Phone portfolio, the Lumia 610, attempting to appeal to consumers who are slowly making the switch to smartphones.

The Lumia 610 has a 3.7-inch WVGA (800 x 480) LCD display, an 800MHz processor (which explains why the device will come to market so much cheaper than other devices in the Lumia range), 256MB RAM (half that of the Lumia 710), 8GB of internal storage, a 5-megapixel camera (with autofocus and an LED flash which kicks out 480p video) and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) operating system.

Nokia will bundle its suite of native apps, including the updated Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps, Nokia Music and Nokia Transport titles.

When we took the device for a spin, in our view it looks a lot nicer than the Lumia 710. The screen is super responsive and it there is no lag when navigating the device. At 11.9cm thick and 131.5 grams, the device is pretty light and quite thin, slipping into your pocket with ease.

We thought the Lumia 710 came in at a respectable price-point but the Lumia 610 is just 189 Euros, which will almost certainly see it offered for free on a very low-priced subsidised contract.
